Chris Coxton Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund
Christopher Lee Coxton was accidentally killed while practicing with his revolver while serving as a Deputy for the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. A memorial trust was established in Chris’s memory by Benny G. Coxton, Judith W. Abernethy, Barbara Pickens and other family and friends and transferred to the Gaston College Foundation for the establishment of an endowed scholarship fund in Chris’ memory.
The purpose of the endowment is to provide financial assistance for a promising student seeking higher education that has proven ability, but does not have the financial resources to attend college. The award is given to residents in Lincoln County enrolled in the Criminal Justice Program or in the Basic Law Enforcement Training program to be used for, but not limited to tuition, books, and fees. The Scholarship is renewable for one additional year if a 2.5 GPA or higher is maintained and the student is enrolled in at least 12 hours of study per semester. Certificate, diploma, or degree seeking students are eligible.
