Andy Hawkins Memorial Award

Alison Nichols, a 1992 graduate of GC’s mechanical drafting program, established this award in memory of her instructor, Andy Hawkins, whose life was ended too soon in February 1992.

The purpose of the Andy Hawkins Memorial Scholarship Fund (Fund), an annual scholarship award, shall be to provide financial assistance for a promising student seeking higher education who has the ability, but not the financial resources to attend college. The scholarship is intended to assist students in any Engineering & Industrial Technologies program. The scholarship is based on financial need, with funds to be used for tuition, books, course materials, or required tools purchased through the College Bookstore.

Scholarships distributed from this Fund may only be awarded to either recent high school graduates who have achieved a minimum high school GPA of 2.5 or continuing Gaston College students who have achieved a minimum GPA of 3.0. Financial need is strongly considered but is not a requirement for this scholarship.

Scholarships awarded from the Fund may not be paid directly to recipient but may be credited to a student’s account to be used for educational expenses including tuition, books, course materials or required tools purchased through the college bookstore. If the college bookstore does not sell the required tools, a student may submit receipts for reimbursement to the foundation.
