Alex Hegenbart Scholarship

The family and Friends of Mr. Hegenbart established the Alex Hegenbart Scholarship. Born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, in August 1922, Alex immigrated to the United States with his wife, Inge, in 1948 after surviving Nazi Occupation of the Netherlands in World War II. He passed away in April 2023 at the age of 100. Mr. Hegenbart served as a Professor of Music at Gaston College for 27 years. He is a published composer of Christian choral music, a jazz pianist, and an ordained music minister. Scholarships from this fund may be awarded to a second-year student with financial need. the student must have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Preferred students be involved in band, choir, orchestra, or other performing music settings.
