Archie & Katherine Huffstetler Education Scholarship
The scholarship was established by Molly and Carson Dean to honor Molly’s parents. Archie Huffstetler was a lifelong resident of Mount Holly, an Army veteran, a graduate of Gaston College, and a retired law enforcement officer with the Gaston County Police Department. Katherine Huffstetler is a retired physical education teacher who has lived in Mount Holly for over 50 years. The Huffstetlers have and continue to be strong advocates for public education and longtime supporters of East Gaston High School. Archie was especially passionate about encouraging young people to pursue further education, often urging them to attend Gaston College to learn a trade, earn an Associate Degree, or continue their academic journey.
Archie Huffstetler passed away in February 2025. His legacy of service and educational advocacy lives on through his family, including his eldest daughter, Dr. Rebecca Huffstetler, who currently serves as principal of East Gaston High School.
Scholarships distributed from this Fund may be awarded to current Gaston College students who: is a recent graduate of East Gaston High School; or a current student at East Gaston High School looking to go to Gaston College;. GPA is 2.0 and greater;e. Scholarships may be renewed for a second year.
